Obituary

CHICOPEE – Sandra J. “Sandy” (Desforge) Metras, 72, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on June 3, 1949, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph A. Desforge who was a veteran of World War II and the late Shirley V. (Laverty) Desforge Holland. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and lived in Chicopee and South Hadley for many years before returning to Chicopee. She was employed for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the former Meadowood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Hadley and Reed’s Landing in Springfield. She last worked as a secretary for the Darcy Company in Holyoke. During her quiet time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking and listening to country music. She especially loved Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and Wells Beach in Maine. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend of 36 years, Kevin M. Metras. She also leaves her eight loving children, Robert S. Miller, Jr. and Robin M. Hernandez and her husband, Juan, all of Chicopee, Steven R. Miller of Russell, Sherry L. Sorbi and her husband, Randy, of South Hadley, Kristen L. Lambert and her partner, Paul Ducharme, of Chicopee, Lauri A. Lussier and her husband, Scott, of Belchertown, Joshua M. Metras of West Springfield, and Heather M. Rusiecki of Springfield; her 16 cherished grandchildren; her six cherished great grandchildren; her dear sister, Patricia Stairs of Westfield; her former husband, Robert S. Miller, Sr. of Holyoke; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear sister, Sheila Robillard; and her dear brother in law, Arthur Stairs. Her Funeral will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10 a.m. at the funeral Home. Her Burial will follow the Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
