James E. Silva, Sr., 86

James E. Silva, Sr., age 86, of Attleboro, formerly of Norton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the Life Care Center of Raynham. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia M. “Pat” (Ladino) Silva, to whom he was wed for nearly thirty-six years at the time of her death on May 21, 1996.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 11, 1936, he was a loving son of the late Thomas and Maryjane (McCarty) Silva.
Jim grew up and was educated in Providence and was a 1952 graduate of the R.I. Radio and Electronics School. During the Vietnam Era, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He later returned to school and in 1968 received a certificate from Northeastern University in Quality Control for Inspection and Production Supervision.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Silva had worked for thirty-two years as a Quality Control Inspections Engineer at American Science & Engineering, Inc. in Cambridge.
A resident of Attleboro for the past fifteen years, he was a former longtime resident of Norton and a former communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton. He loved spending time with his adoring family, especially his grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Peter Gun”. In later years, Jim enjoyed making new friends while attending the Hillside Adult Day Care in Attleboro and celebrating his favorite holiday, by far, Saint Patrick’s Day.
He is survived by his devoted children: James E. Silva, Jr. and his wife Cheri of Seekonk, John F. Silva of Woonsocket, Jeffrey L. Silva and his spouse Glen Costa of Providence, Dorothy M. Silva of Attleboro and Dianne M. Marshall and her husband Paul of Attleboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Eric Silva, Ryan Silva and his companion Maura Harrington, Cory Silva, Mariah Marshall, Kylee Weber Silva, the late Zackary Marshall and was the proud great grandfather of Kira Marshall and Zackary James Marshall. He was the dear brother of Joseph Silva of California, Joan Duncan of South Carolina, the late Thomas Silva and is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a graveside funeral service, accompanied with military honors, on Thursday March 17th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Common Cemetery, West Main Street (Route 123) in Norton.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Adult Day Health Center, 300 Branch Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
