Obituary

Dr. James Franklin Drawdy, 89, of Miami, Florida passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Dr. Drawdy will be laid to rest at Oakey Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.

James was born in Nashville, Georgia on February 6, 1933, to Lena and Perry Drawdy. He graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 1958. After graduation, James entered the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He served as a Veterinarian to the U.S. Army Medical Research Program at Fort Detrick from July 1958-July 1960. He had great stories of working with and saving sick monkeys in the research program. After being discharged from the Army in July of 1960, James moved to South Florida where he practiced at Miami Springs Animal Hospital for a year. In 1961, He opened Palm Springs Animal Hospital where he practiced until 2002. For 41 years he served the Hialeah-Miami Lakes area mainly treating domestic animals.

James is survived by his daughters, Sheila Drawdy, Sherry Hogg and her husband Mike, and Sandra Drawdy; and four grandchildren, J.R., Kaylee, Jason, and Thomas.
