LIMERICK- Dean E. Jacobs, 76, died peacefully on Sunday March 06, 2022 at his home in Limerick, Maine. It is impossible to capture his essence in a few short sentences, but those that knew him will remember his caring heart, his wit, his nurturing soul, his love for God, family, and our country, and they will appreciate the impact he had on everyone he came in contact with.
Dean was born on July 13, 1945 in Bath Maine, a son of Richard Jacobs Sr. and Loni Caswell Jacobs. He graduated from Schenck High School East Millinocket in the class of 1963. Soon after graduation, he was drafted by the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. During that time, he was stationed in Osan, Korea in the field of communications for air to ground and ship to shore at sea range in radio teletype. Upon returning from the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Paula, who he loved with all his heart, in June of 1969.
He was employed by Great Northern Paper Company in the stores department for over 40 years, retiring in 2010. After his retirement, he was a volunteer driver with Lynx Transportation at Penquis for 5 years. Dean had a huge heart for all people, and helped them in any way he could. He was president of Katahdin Regional Concerned Citizens (KRCC), helping to build and renovate homes for people in need. He was a member of the American Legion Post in East Millinocket for 5 years.
Dean loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, and farming. He was a ‘Jack of All Trades’ and master of many. His priority was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Paula Beaulieu Jacobs. Their theme song was, “Young Love, First Love” by Sonny James. He is also survived by his two daughters, Becky Reed and her three children Conner, Griffin, and Chandler of Bangor, Maine; Sarah Frick and her husband Brady Frick and their two daughters Ella and Lucia of Limerick, Maine; his best pal, Wilson, the black lab.
He leaves behind two brothers Ralph (Lori), Steven (Diana); two sisters, Joanne McDonald all of Medway, Maine; Diane Swallow of East Millinocket; brother-in-law Harold Smith (Kim) of Medway, Maine; sister-in-law Linda Jacobs of Vallejo, California; brother-in-law Ricky Beaulieu (Cecile) of Bangor, Maine; sister-in-laws Bette (Carl) MacLeod of St. James, North Carolina; Nancy Beaulieu of East Millinocket, Maine; Teresa (Rob) Emerson of Kemah, Texas.
He leaves behind several nieces and nephews that he adored, both on the East and West coast.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Rev. Robert Jacobs and his wife Elaine; Rev. Richard Jacobs Jr. and his first wife Linda; sister Colleen Smith; brother-in-law Larry McDonald; parents-in-law Arnold and Este Beaulieu; sister-in-law Brenda Lyons; nieces and nephews Crystal, Robbie, Glen, Sonia, and Jill.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 19th at 1:00pm at Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street Cornish, Maine. A memorial service with US Army Honors will be held at that time.
