Harold Nels Rosengren Jr., M.D., age 82, passed away on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 in Ventura, CA after a brief illness. Harold was born in Seattle, Washington to Dr. Harold Rosengren and Dr. Edith Gordon Rosengren on April 17th, 1939. He went to West Seattle High School, graduating in 1957. He started college at Dixie College in St. George, Utah, and then transferred to University of Utah before gaining early entry to University of Washington Medical School. He interned at Philadelphia General Hospital prior to entering the U.S. Air Force stationed at Holloman Air Force base Alamogordo, NM as a physician during the Vietnam War. He then completed his residency at Wadsworth VA Hospital in West Los Angeles, and Long Beach VA Hospital before beginning his medical career as a board certified Internist in both Internal Medicine and Allergy-Immunology in Beverly Hills, CA. He married Katherine Miller in 1970 and in 1972, they moved to Ventura, CA. Harold donated his time to the Ventura County Allergy Clinic forming a long-time friendship with colleague Dr. James Villaveces and became the first full-time allergist in Ventura County. He continued in private practice in Ventura and Oxnard for 39 years, and after Harold’s retirement in 2011, he continued working part-time alongside his colleague, Dr. Sanjiv Verma, for another 9 years. Harold enjoyed building relationships with his patients, in a career that spanned five decades, these relationships often grew to serve families inter-generationally.
Harold enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, proudly driving his Porsche, water skiing, and snow skiing. He loved card games and spending quality time with his family. An active Ventura community member, Harold could be seen at performing arts events as a member of the Board of Channel Islands Ballet Company or sports fields around town cheering-on his children and later his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a wonderful employer, a kind doctor with excellent bed-side manner, and a good man, who always put family first.
Harold is survived by his wife of 51 years, Katherine Rosengren of Ventura, CA, brother, Phillip Rosengren D.D.S (Linda) of Renton, WA, Sister-in-Law, Viola Rosengren, Renton, WA; children Rebecca Tsivkin (Roman) of New York, Nels Rosengren, Jared Rosengren (Franca) of Ventura, CA, Sabrina Rosengren (Devin) of Los Angeles, CA and Carley Rosengren of Ventura, CA, grandchildren Noam Tsivkin, Arianna Tsivkin, Scata Rosengren, and Enzlo Rosengren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harold Nels Rosengren and Dr. Edith Gordon Rosengren and brother, Gordon Rosengren D.D.S.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14th 2022 at 11:00am in the BOYKO & REARDON TELEGRAPH ROAD MORTUARY & CREMATION, located at 15 Teloma Dr, Ventura, CA 93003. Visiting hours will precede the service from 9:00am – 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Ventura County Lung Association in his honor.
