Ruben Nieves, III, also known as Matthew born in Malden, MA on June 24, 1987 and raised in Andover, MA passed away in West Springfield, MA with his devoted girlfriend Michelle Deenen by his side on February 19th, 2022, at age 34, due to cardiac arrest.
Ruben was a "Renaissance man". He grew up with a love for drawing, photography, music, stand up comedy, dance, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, skateboarding and snowboarding. Ruben attended Andover High School, and developed a second family within Andover Youth Services regarding Founder and Director William Fahey aka "Bill" as a "mentor" and "hero". Ruben studied at Holyoke Catholic Academy, and furthered his education at Holyoke Community College, American International University and Southern New Hampshire University.
He launched his own photography business at 19 Lyteheart photography and also began engineering custom electric guitars at the time. Ruben was also an accomplished customer service manager and loved his work family at Geico in West Springfield. He was grateful to his leaders Dan Marchese & Tyler Ramos Bates for their partnership and empowerment of his skill set. Ruben will be remembered as a hilarious, loyal, and humble son, brother, friend and boyfriend.
He enjoyed being with friends playing dungeons and dragons, making french pressed coffee, cooking and entertaining, and sharing stories and jokes while enjoying craft beers.
Ruben Nieves, III, is survived by his father Ruben Nieves Jr. of Andover, MA (son of late Ruben Nieves Sr.) his paternal grandmother Rosa-Nieves Santiago of Sanford, FL. His seven aunts, four uncles and multiple cousins located in Orlando, Fl. Ruben is survived by his mother Maritza Valentin of Sarasota, FL. Her mother Carmen "Lili" Morales of Puerto Rico, her brother Edwin Valentin of New York, and multiple cousins in Plainville, CT. Ruben is survived by his elder sister Aliany Nieves, and his nieces, Nadja Valeria Melendez, Aliany Nicole Lopez, Natalia Lopez and nephew Luis Lopez of Kissimmee, FL. Ruben is survived by his niece Angelica Nicole Nieves, daughter of his elder (late) sister Astrid Nieves of Kissimmee, FL. Ruben is survived by his elder sister Ruby Mari Nieves of Andover, MA and family dog Amber Rose Nieves. Ruben is survived by his "band of brothers" John Truck Halauck, Mark Harper Jr., Andrew Mckenzie and Andrew Doming etc. as well as extended family in Western, MA including his friends at Tin Bridge Brewery, Macho Taco & work family at Geico in West Springfield. Ruben is survived by his loving girlfriend Michelle Deenen of Hanson, MA and her dog Bruschi as well as her brother, sister and father.
Calling hours will take place at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main St. Andover, MA Sunday March 6, 2022 from 5-7pm, Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 5-7pm, & Friday, March 11, 2022 from 5-8pm. His funeral service will be celebrated in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11am. Burial following at Spring Grove cemetery in Andover. (In honor of Rubens humor and love of fashion, the dress code will be formal but colorful for all wakes and funeral).
