Hilda E. Elder, 80, died peacefully on March 2, 2022 at Wingate Silver Lake in Kingston. Born in Marshfield, Massachusetts in 1941 she was the middle daughter of the late Charles and Evelyn Simmons.
Following her graduation from Marshfield High School she married the love of her life, Kenneth S. Elder, her husband of 54 years until his passing in 2014. Together they raised three sons in East Bridgewater.
Hilda was very involved with her family and her family at Wingate Silver Lake where she had been the President of the Residents Association.
Hilda was a police matron for many years with the East Bridgewater Police Department and a preschool teacher for over 20 years at the East Bridgewater Co Op Nursery at the Union Congregational Church. She was blessed with being able to be the teacher for her two grandchildren and countless children in the town of East Bridgewater. Many may remember her from when she worked at Kathy’s Convenience. Hilda along with her husband were also known as the Halloween popcorn family, giving out hundreds of bags of popcorn each year.
She loved spending time with her family and friends; but mostly loved traveling the country with her husband in their motorhome.
Hilda was the loving mother of Eric J. Elder and his wife Kelli of Bridgewater, MA and Keith C. Elder and his wife Felicia of Tulsa, OK and the late Kenneth S. Elder II. She is also survived by two grandchildren Kenneth S. Elder, III of Apache, OK and Aimee Ambrosen of Boston, MA. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and her loving sister Bettina Peterson of CA.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Hilda’s life at funeral services to be held Friday, March 11, 2022 at 10:00 am in the Union Congregational Church, 105 Pleasant Street, East Bridgewater. Burial will be at a later date in the Union Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.
