Frederick Ward Thompson, Jr., 74, of East Bridgewater, passed away the morning of February 28, 2022 after a brief illness in the hospital. He was born in Abington to the late Frederick Ward Sr. and Dorothy (Higgins) Thompson. Fred graduated from South Shore Vocational-Technical High School in 1965. He was the owner of Academy Bowl in Bridgewater and Viking Recreation Center in East Bridgewater and was the president of the Massachusetts Bowling Association for several years in the 1980’s. He was a hard worker and an avid bowler and golfer. Even after retirement he could be found bowling in leagues and out on the golf course. Many people in the community appreciated his wit and light-hearted banter. He took great joy in attending his grandchildren’s extra- curricular activities.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn M. Thompson, and his three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Scott Blatt of Raynham, Bridget and Kevin Luce of Kenya, and Jody and Raffi Topjian of Duxbury. In addition, he is survived by ten grandchildren whom he always bragged about: Joshua, Savannah, Charis, Selah, Caleb, Nathaniel, Malachi, Abigail, Tyler and Victoria. He is survived by three brothers, Jeff, Greg and Guy Thompson all originally from Abington.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Church in Taunton, MA on March 11, 2022 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers please donate in his name to the Benevolence Fund of Christ Community Church. There will be a private burial at a later date.
