Robert M. Sheehan passed away peacefully, at home, in the company of his loving family. He was 76. Raised in Somerville, Robert was the son of the late William and Mary (Collins) Sheehan. After graduating from high school he served in the US Army. After his discharge, he began a long career with the MBTA. He began as a toll collector and worked his way up to being a skilled train mechanic. A long-time active member of the Carmen’s Union, Bob was recently recognized for his 50 years of membership.
Robert lived a very active life. In addition to his work, Bob was a life-long Red Sox fan and shared season’s tickets with his daughter. He and his beloved wife Mary Jo enjoyed travelling the world. Whether on cruises or land, there is barely a part of this planet they haven’t visited. Europe, Asia, the US, Caribbean, Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere where all part of the itinerary. Always delighted to experience so many diverse places and cultures, Bob once exclaimed “who knew that a kid from Somerville would be standing on the Great Wall of China. Robert was also a life-long student of history, with a special interest in the era of the Second World War. Most of all, Bob was devoted to his family and friends. He will be missed by those who knew him.
The beloved husband of Mary Jo (Armstrong) Sheehan, he also leaves his loving daughter Jody Sheehan of Stoneham. He was a dear brother to Helen Medeiros of Hampton, NH, David Sheehan of Methuen, Fran Pepe of Florida, the late Edward Sheehan and Mary Donato. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Tuesday, March 8th from 4 – 8 PM and again on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford 11:30 AM. Burial will be private.
