Obituary

“SUFFOLK“USEdmund L. "Ed" Hafey, a resident of Concord NH and formerly of Derry NH, Manchester NH, Malden MA, Medford MA, and Charlestown MA, entered into eternal life on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at his home in Concord NH. He was 75 years of age.

Ed was born in Boston on July 22, 1946, a son of the late William Hafey and Celia (Noonan) Hafey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Ed enlisted into the United States Army on September 30, 1965 and served his country with honor and courage during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on September 27, 1968 with the rank of Private and having been awarded 2 Bronze Stars along with the United States Army Commendation Medal For Heroism. Ed worked as a Corrections Officer for the Suffolk County Sherriff's Department for many years until his retirement. He later worked at Burgundy's Sports Center in Derry, NH as a manager. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, above all else. Ed enjoyed playing pool, shooting darts, and listening to oldies music. He was a member of the Derry Memorial VFW Post #1617 and the Halcyon Club in Derry, NH.

Ed is the devoted father of Nicole Denton and her husband Steve, and Jackie Scanlon and her fiance John. He is the loving Grampy to Meaghan Bannister, Madison Bannister, Jack Bannister, Brooke Robinson, McKenzie Denton and Maya Scanlon. He is the dear brother of Judy Burton, Bill Hafey and his wife Mary, and the late Jack Ring, Donald Ring, and Theresa Ring. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ed's visiting hours on Monday morning March 7, 2022 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. His burial will take place on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 12 Noon in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make a memorial donation in Ed's name to the St. Mary's Church Building Fund, 46 Winthrop St. Charlestown MA 02129.
