Margaret M. (Sweeting) Shanks passed away at home Saturday, February 26, 2022. Margaret was the youngest daughter of the late Daniel Sweeting and Jannie May (Gibbs) Sweeting. Margaret is survived by her husband of 55 years Richard D. Shanks, her sons Richard D. Shanks Jr., Keith T. Shanks his wife Jennifer Shanks, daughter Jenine M. Shanks-Phillips her husband Jarrod Phillips and son Greg D. Shanks; sisters Grace Shanks and Shirley Magee; brother Daniel Sweeting and his wife Louise Sweeting; and sister Kathy Lugo and her husband Joseph Lugo and her aunt, Ann (Gibbs) Johnson. Margaret was a loving and devoted aunt, cousin, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Margaret was a lifelong resident of Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School in 1964 and The Long Island School of Nursing in 1965. Margaret continued to work as a nurse for 32 years before retiring from New England Sinai Hospital.
Margaret loved to travel with her friends and family, frequenting the casino and spending time with her loved ones and visiting Tampa. Margaret was known for her wit, humor, and honesty.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 12:00 to 3:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 10:00 am, in the funeral home, followed by interment at Melrose Cemetery.
