Obituary

Bardow, Anna, Age 91, of Brighton. Entered Eternal Rest on February 27, 2022. Beloved mother of Alexander K. Bardow and his wife Olesya of Brighton, step-mother of the late Lexi Bardow, step mother-in-law of Ewa Bardow, and step grandmother of Andre, Evelyn, Patrick and Dominik, of Germany. Devoted wife of the late Alexander I. Bardow. Cherished daughter of the late Alexander Koupreianow and Olga (Hagen-Torn). Anna was born on March 29, 1930 of Russian civil war refugees in Smederevo in the former Yugoslavia, where she grew up. In 1939, World War II shattered her peaceful life and she along with her family found themselves in the middle of this turbulent conflict. Fleeing the Red Army, they evacuated to Vienna, where her father died, and then to Saltzburg, where the end of the war found them. She and her mother lived for a while in a Displaced Persons camp in Saltzburg and then moved to Paris, where Anna received an Associates Degree from the Ecole Superieur de Chemie de Paris. In 1951, she and her mother emigrated to the United States and settled in the old West End of Boston. She met her future husband on board the ship coming over. She worked for a while at the Mass. General Hospital. Her hobbies included painting, embroidery, as well as woodworking. A religious person, she was one of the founding members of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Epiphany in Roslindale and was devoted to the church over her life. In addition to cleaning and decorating the church for feast days, she also applied her woodworking talents by making several carved wood icon frames for the Holy Epiphany Church, including full height ones for St. John of Kronstadt and Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, and smaller ones for St. Alexander Nevsky, patron saint of the Alexanders in her life, and St. Herman of Alaska. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Russian Orthodox Church of the Epiphany, 963 South Street, Roslindale, MA 02131. Interment will be private.
