We regretfully announce the passing of Margaret (Peggy) Ann Fleming of Wolfeboro, NH on February 28, 2022, after a long illness. Peggy was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully.
Peggy was born on September 8, 1940, to Edgar J. and Mary E. (MacLeod) Michelson in Worcester, MA. After graduating from North High School, Worcester, MA in 1958, where she captained the women’s basketball team, she went on to study nursing at The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, MA, graduating in 1963.
In 1962, she met Gerald (Jerry) J. Fleming at a dance mixer, and they wed in 1963. They moved to Washington, DC where Jerry did research for the Navy and Peggy worked at a local hospital. While there, they started a family, going on to have three children, Michael Thomas Fleming, Anne Marie Fleming and Patrick John Fleming. They eventually moved on to Winona, MN before returning to their New England roots. Peggy continued working off and on in nursing while her family grew before taking a human resources position at Digital Equipment.
Our mother, Peggy, was one of the kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her. She excelled at supporting her family and many friends through the passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Her enduring and quirky sense of humor is a trait that endeared her to many, and got her through even her last days with a smile on her face. Her sense of style was always colorful and ‘sparkly,’ just like she was.
A high school athlete, Peggy remained a life-long sports fan, and she was always up on the latest scores and news for the Boston teams. She was particularly passionate about the Red Sox and Patriots and could get quite worked up when coaching and referee calls did not go the way she wished. We will miss her enthusiasm greatly in the coming baseball season.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Jerry and her sister, Judy Drackley. She is survived by her eldest son, Michael T. Fleming of North Andover, MA, her daughter Anne M. Fleming and son-in-law Maxwell M. Tejo, of Franklin, MA, and her youngest son, Patrick J. Fleming and his wife, Jenny Schinleber Fleming of Orlando, FL, along with her four grandchildren Brendan Fleming, Cameron Fleming, Brennan Grandt and Madeleine Fleming.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 6 from 2-5 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
