WEBSTER – William J. “Bill” Celko, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 18, 2022.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline Therese “Jackie” (Brisbois) Celko; 6 children, William J. Celko of Woodstock, CT, Jane A. Lebeau and her husband Robert of Whitefield, NH, Jean-Paul Celko of Webster, Cynthia L. Bates of Thompson, CT, Robert C. Celko of Fiskdale and Gregory S. Celko and his fiancée Cheryl Scalisi of Webster; 12 grandchildren, Jesse, Erica, Dana, Jason, Bianca, Dustin, Christie, Lindsey, Nicholas, Samantha and Jacob; 10 great-grandchildren, Jack, Robert, Carter, Stella, Shaelynn, Will, Lennix, Delainey, Cole and Ciri; a sister, Grace Cacciapouti of Florida; nieces and nephews; and Janice and Breezy Brisbois who were always there to share the good times in life. He was preceded in death by his sister Rita LaPierre, his son-in-law Brian D. Bates and his grandson Tyler S. Bates.
He was born at home in Dudley on July 28, 1933, the youngest child of William J. and Cecilia (Kozlowski) Celko and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1951. He lived in Dudley and Webster all his life.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Celko was a dispatcher for George Meyer Company in West Boylston for over 30 years. He then worked as a custodian at Dudley Elementary School for 10 years. In retirement, he drove the delivery truck for the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, frogging, and many family get-togethers including Misquamicut Beach, Webster Lake, camping and canoeing on the Saco River, Halloween at Mashamoquet Park, Christmas Yankee swaps, ice fishing up North and cross-country trips.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 12, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street, with a time of visitation in the church from 10:15 AM to 11:00 AM. Military honors will be provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council. Donations in his name may be made either to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Sacred Heart Church, 18 East Main Street or to the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, 4 Veterans Way, both in Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street.
