CHICOPEE – Barbara J. (Sliwa) Vickers, 83, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, February 24, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on August 19, 1938, the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Bertha (Filar) Sliwa. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed as a Clerk at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee but will mostly be remembered by all as the Assistant Manager of the Rivoli Theatre in downtown Chicopee. She was a communicant of the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr in Chicopee. She leaves her loving and devoted son, Brett A. Vickers, her cherished nephew, Dennis Swartzel and her dear friend, Alice Garzinski, all of Chicopee. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 12 p.m. at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
