Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Richard M. Desmond, age 80, a resident of Tewksbury for 54 years, passed away at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial V.A. Hospital in Bedford on Friday, February 25, 2022.

He was the beloved husband of Virginia F. “Ginny” (Glennon) Desmond, with whom he would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2022.

Born in Charlestown on December 10, 1941, he was the son of the late James Desmond and the late Marjorie (Hurley) Desmond.

Richard was raised in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School.

In 1960, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War era. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Marksman and Pistol Sharpshooter Badge for his active-duty service.

Prior to his retirement in 2012, he was employed for 23 years by Massport at Logan International Airport where he worked as a welder.

Richard was a member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church, the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center, the Marine Corps League, and a former member of the Tewksbury Elks Post # 2070.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Michelle L. O’Neill and her husband Michael, Nancy V. Nastasi and her husband Brian, Dee Dee Lamport and her spouse Cheryl Garganta and Shirley Bachini: his grandchildren, Jadyn and Taylor Nastasi, Joseph, Shirley, Catherine and David Bachini, and Katelyn Lamport. He was the brother of Donald Desmond and his wife Judy, Robert Desmond and his wife Paula, Marjorie Peterson and her late husband Edward, Janet Black and her husband Wayne, and the late James, William, and Patricia Desmond. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Calling hours are Thursday, March 3rd from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4th, at 11 a.m. at the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East St., Tewksbury. Friends are asked to meet at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made payable to Friends of the Elderly, 175 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
