John James Plante III, 78, of Boston passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2022, in Seasons Hospice Care, Milton, Massachusetts after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
John (Jack) is survived by his sister, Judith S. Laliberte of Worcester, his brother, Steven S. Plante of Worcester, and his close friends Sandra and Ronald Pacy of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by his life partner, Robert Lodes.
John was born in Worcester, son of the late Dorothy (Spencer) and John N. Plante. John graduated from St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied for the priesthood but did not take his final vows. Instead, he became a teacher, teaching Latin and English in private and public high schools. After more than a decade, he left teaching to work in high-tech companies until he retired. Jack loved the life of the mind. He read widely and enjoyed discussing religion, politics, history, sports, and philosophy.
He was a gentle humanitarian who unassumingly helped many people in his community. He loved animals, and, in particular, his cat OJ. He enjoyed visiting the mountains and lakes of Maine, where he made several fast friends. He was an eternal optimist. He loved life and helping people.
Funeral Services are private with burial in Note Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
