Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Francis Frasier Galvin. Francis went to be with his Lord and Savior, at the age of 86, on February 27, 2022.

He was a Derry, NH, native, born November 18, 1935, son of the late Frank and Ethel (Frasier) Galvin. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothea Grandmaison, Charles P. Myette and Ronald Myatt.
Francis is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, June (Travers) Galvin, son and daughter-in-law, Francis Charles and Joanne E. (Shelly) Galvin of Pittsfield, NH; his daughter and Son-in-law Karen E. and James E. McCue of Derry, NH. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Joshua D. and Aimee E. Joki, parents of Sedona, Clive and Sawyer; Justin and Brieanna Galvin, parents of Victoria June; Jennifer and Jeffrey Dylan Swain, parents of Jeffrey and Joseph Swain; Emily-Kate Joki, Stephen R. Sample and Gretchen E. Joki.

Francis was known as a true patriot who loved God, family, and country. He attended Pinkerton Academy for four years. Then enlisted into the Air Force at Seventeen years of age, serving in communications during the Korean War. He became disabled while in service to his country. Francis retired after 42 years of working for New England Telephone with a Masters Electrician License and was an Honorary Member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2320. Francis held an Honorary Life Membership with the American Legion, was a Life Member of the Forty & Eight and served for a time as Grand Chef de Gare and Chaplain. Francis has always had a great appreciation for those who have served their country and his community service speaks for itself.

Francis played the trumpet for years, at age eight, he started playing Taps at funeral services here in Derry and progressed to instructing for the Spacetown Cadets Drum and Bugle Corp. He was also active in his local church and was Commander of the AWANA clubs for seven years while training his children. Francis, also known as “The Great White Hunter,” enjoyed hunting with family and friends; in fact, his favorite meal was venison stew. In addition, Francis was also an avid fisherman, leaving behind many fond memories of hunting trips, family camping and fishing.

Calling hours were held on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 2:00pm to 5:00pmin the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 4 at 10:30am in the funeral home. The burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, East Derry, NH.
