Mirdza Saulesleja, 98

Mirdza (Duzens) Saulesleja, age 98, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Stoughton. She was the beloved wife of the late Augusts “Gus” Saulesleja, who died on January 25, 1997.
Born in Remte, Latvia on October 7, 1923, she was a loving daughter of the late Kriss and Minna (Inapss) Duzens.
Mirdza grew up in Latvia and was educated in both Latvia and Dorchester. She had made her home in Norton for over nearly fifty years and prior to retiring in 1986, had been employed for thirty-five years as a Laboratory Technician at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Mirdza was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Church in Brookline and the Daugavas Vanagi Association. She loved spending time with her family, flowers and gardening, and when younger took evening courses in sewing and weaving.
She was the devoted mother of Daina S. Ahern of Norton and the late Rita Saulesleja. She was the adoring grandmother of Stephanie Ahern of Florida and the cherished great grandmother of Morgan Winger and Corey Cole. She was the dear sister of the late Rainolds Duzens and Maigons Duzens and is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews in Latvia.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at The Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4th at 11:00 A.M. in the Latvian Lutheran Church, 58 Irving Street, Brookline. Burial will follow at the Gardens Cemetery in West Roxbury.
