STANDISH – Carl A. Marean, age 77, passed away on February 24, 2022 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Westbrook, Maine on May 23, 1944, a son of the late Carl E. Marean and Marjorie I. (Lombard) Poole. A lifelong resident of Standish, Carl planted his roots here for his own family raising three children and running his business along with his wife Jane.
Carl graduated Bonny Eagle High School in 1962, the first class to graduate in what is now the Junior High School. After High School he worked for Maingas in Portland as a delivery driver for many years. Following this he worked for his brother Cliff at Northeastern General Contractors in Standish where many stories were told and laughter shared over the years. He was a member of the Standish Masonic Lodge #70 and a standing member of Nannie’s Bar & Grille. Carl’s dream job was to be a Game Warden, he enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years with his brothers and best buddy Carl Seaton and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. His nephew Rick fondly remembers smelting trips with the guys although we are not sure how much fishing was done.
Most remember Carl best from Country Crossroads and Crossroads Country Wear, the dance hall and clothing store he and his wife Jane ran for over 25 years. Following that they spent several years enjoying Maine Harness Racing, owning horses and spending time at the track. He was a man of integrity that always had a smile and based the best deals on a handshake. He was known for his kindness, the positive impact he had on people he crossed paths with was memorable.
Carl is predeceased by his father, Carl E. Marean, his mother Marjorie I. (Lombard) Marean, his sister Diane Marean Gryskwicz, the love of his life, his wife Jane W. Marean and their infant son.
