Obituary

Victor Paul Landry, 85, passed away on Thursday, February24,2022 at the Elliot Hospital after declining health. He was born in Canada August 1, 1937 to parents Charles and Jeanne Landry. He was a proud 78 year resident of Windham NH.
After attending Windham schools, he graduated from Nashua High School and various tech schools. He was then employed by research and development firms in New Hampshire as well as Massachusetts. A highlight of this field was to meet and work for oceanographer Jacques Cousteau on Jacques’ boat the “Calypso.”

Vic participated in many activities that interested him. He was a scuba diver, medalist competitive roller skater. He enjoyed hunting and photography. He often went deep sea fishing from his boat the “Hanky-Panky” off the Maine coast. Motorcycling was very much up his alley. He was a member of New England Trail Riders Association and hosted several NETRA Endoro events as well as Merrimack Trail Rider Events. He also hosted several Boy Scouting events such as Summer Chuckwagon and Winter Klondike Derbies for the Daniel Webster Council, the Algonquin District and the Arrowhead District. He also hosted for regional jamborees with well over 500 scouts.

His most memorable accomplishment was the development of Landry’s Ski Slope, with the help of his brother Guy and their parents. At this ski slope, Vic provided lighted skiing and ski lessons at a reasonable cost, as well as providing sledding, toboggining and lighted skating at no cost. This made it a family recreation area where Windham folks did not have to travel out of town to gather and have fun. He took on young people and had them trained by the Red Cross to become Ski Patrol. They worked at various jobs in rotation in exchange for free skiing. He gave them jobs and responsibilities and expected them to become responsible in the process. He also hosted Windham Recreation Winter Carnivals.

In 1984, Victor was recognized by the Windham Recreation Committee for 25 years of service to the citizens and youth of Windham, from 1959 to 1984. At Town Meeting, Victor was presented a gubernatorial commendation from Governor Meldrin Thompson Jr, citing Victor’s “untiring dedication to the physical and moral development of the many young people who have benefited from his friendship and leadership.

Victor is survived by his brother Guy Landry and his sister Suzie Noyles, nephews and nieces Maurice Landry and wife Elizabeth, Michael Landry and his husband Tom Albrec, Leah Peters, Henry Landry and wife Gloria, Marie O’Keefe and husband Sean, Christopher Noyles and wife JoAnne, Jeffrey Noyles, and Linda Landry. He was predeceased by his parents, his oldest brother, John Landry and his nephew, Roger Landry.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Warde Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for providing a warm healthy environment for Vic in his later years and to all the staff that took excellent, compassionate care of him.

There will be no services at this time. Burial and memorial service will be held in the spring. Memorial donations in Vic’s name may be sent to the Shephard’s Pantry c/o Windham Presbyterian Church, 1 Church Road, Windham NH 03087. For family, let us not forget Vic’s famous words, “What we must do….
