CHERRY VALLEY - Helen C. (Yougelowicz) Niedbala, of Cherry Valley, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in St. Vincent Hospital, a week shy of her 97th birthday. Her husband John S. Niedbala died in 1987.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Anderson and husband Bill of Tiverton, RI; John Niedbala and wife Lisa of West Barnstable, MA; Ronald Niedbala and wife Kristina of Worcester and Edward Niedbala and his companion Cheryl of Dudley; three grandchildren, Cynthia, Steven, and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Leana, Alec and Olivia; a sister, Viola Matuza of Palm Coast, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her five brothers, Bruno, Louis, Stanley, Butchie and Joseph. She was born in Hicksville, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Victoria (Bucknock) Yougelowicz.
Mrs. Niedbala was a longtime telecommunications professional starting in Webster as an operator and retiring as a Manager for AT&T. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. Helen was also a member and past president of the Webster/Dudley Polish-American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary and Sgt.-at-Arms of their state organization, member of Our Lady of Czestochowa’s Women’s Guild and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Proud of her Polish heritage, she enjoyed polka music, dancing and making pierogis. As a crafter she liked quilting and ceramics. Helen also spent time on word search, jigsaw puzzles and Scrabble with friends and family. She loved to travel, spending time in Myrtle Beach with her toes in the sand and grand-dogs’ leashes in-hand, and on fun-filled day trips with Charlie, her companion.
The funeral will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester, MA with a Mass at 12:00 PM in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. It will be livestreamed at www.olcworcester.com. Burial will be private. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, February 28, 2022, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
