Patricia Hope (Colwell) Houle, age 90, of Brockton, died February 17, 2022 at Tufts Medical Center. She was the devoted wife of the late Lionel Houle, Jr. for 49 years. Born in Providence, RI and raised in Warwick, she was daughter of the late Samuel and Hope (Twigg) Colwell. She was a resident of Brockton for over 60 years.
Pat earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and her Master’s in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. A permanent substitute at Brockton High School for 40 years, she retired in 2013.
Pat enjoyed reading, cooking, the arts, and jazz. Over the years, she served Brockton in the League of Women’s Voters, PTA, the School Committee, the Garden Club and as the president of the DW Field Park Association. She was the creator and organizer of Towerfest for over 15 years. The Commission on Women’s Issues awarded her Woman of the Year in 2004, the House of Representatives recognized her in 2010 and in 2018 she received a citation from the Mayor of Brockton- all for her service to the city.
She had a true heart to serve but especially enjoyed time with her family and friends.
Pat was the mother of Denise Hill of Brockton, Jeffrey Houle and his wife Karen Cosgrove of Carver, Brian Houle of Brockton, D’Anne Rooslet and her husband David of Brockton, Michelle Shipman and her husband Thomas of Rutland, MA and the late Jonathan Houle.
Pat leaves her grandchildren Jonathan, Samuel, Benjamin and Molly-Grace Shipman, David III, Joshua and Gerald Rooslet and great grandchildren Lainey and Sebastian Shipman.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St., Brockton on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 10am -12 pm followed by a funeral service. Burial to follow in Melrose Cemetery.
