William W. Boyd, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on February 20, 2022 at the Methuen Village, Assisted Living & Compass Memory Support Center in Methuen. He was 79 years old. Born on October 20, 1942 to his parents, William W. Sr. and Lillian Frances Meade, "Bill" ("Willie" to his mother) spent his entire adult life in Medford. He was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1960 and served 6 years in the Massachusetts National Guard doing his basic training at Fort Bragg, in Fayetteville, N.C. and learning land surveying at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, S.C. He continued his land surveying and land engineering education at Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology which culminated in earning his Licensed Professional Land Surveyor credential with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1983. He worked for the Middlesex County Engineering Department in Cambridge for 35 years and rose through the ranks to become its Assistant County Engineer. He also worked for Snelling & Hamel Associates in Lincoln. Bill was active with the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE), the Lawrence Light Guard of Medford, and the Mystic Valley Gun Club of Malden. In his spare time, he was a tugboat and train enthusiast, enjoyed cooking, animals, and music (especially the blues and BB King). He was a loyal reader of the Boston Globe and enjoyed summers in Biddeford Pool and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Most importantly, family and friends regarded Bill as an outstanding husband and father, a good neighbor, and a man with an amazing sense of humor. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 45 years, Dorothy A. (Francis). He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, William W. III and Michele M. Boyd of Merrimack, N.H., his son, Robert F. of Medford, his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen A. and Bryan P. Gobiel of Danvers; two granddaughters, Sarah M. Gobiel of Danvers and Jade E. Boyd of Merrimack, N.H., his loving sister, Jean C. DiGiusto of Wrentham; a nephew, four nieces; and his faithful, loving, four-legged companion, Amy. He was predeceased by his nephew, Lawrence C. DiGiusto, Jr. The wake will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 4-8pm at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 11:30am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden. Burial to follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Road, Medford.
