Michael Thurmon “Mike” Gill, 71, of Maryville, Tennessee, formerly of Tifton, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Mr. Gill will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 27, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be gathering at the home of Doris and James Rutherford, 2204 Love Avenue in Tifton.
Kyle Rutherford, Keith Rutherford, Monty Copeland, Brad Gill, Blake Payne and Julius Brown will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Stepp and retirees and employees at UPS.
Born April 1, 1950, in Tift County, Mr. Gill was the son of the late Thurmon Gill and Carlene Goff Gill. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Davis Gill; and one brother, Alan Gill. He retired from UPS after 40 years as a driver. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville, Tennessee, where he was a leader of the Spark Plug Class. He loved his family dearly and he loved the mountains. He was also a volunteer at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee for five years.
Mr. Gill is survived by his wife, Ann Coleman Gill of Maryville, Tennessee; two sons, Adam and Amanda Gill of Lakeland, Florida and Blake Gill and Laurie Mathers of Winter Haven, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Faye Gill of Ocala, Florida; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sandra Copeland, Melissa and Chip Rhodes and Doris and James Rutherford, all of Tifton; four grandchildren, Jayla Crumley, Logan Gill, Landon Gill and Wyatt Gill; and special friends, Allen and Deanna Stepp.
