Joseph M. Silvia 76, of Rockland Massachusetts died surrounded by loving family on February 20th in the care of South Shore Hospital after succumbing to long time illness.
Born in Columbus, Georgia in 1945 first son to Joseph and Pauline (Turcotte) Silvia, he graduated from Norwell High School in 1963 and went on to work for Herman, Inc. and moved on to Garber, Inc. in his younger years as a sales representative. He later on pursued his dream of running his own landscape company with the help of his sons.
While raising his family and running his business he attended BU, Holy Cross, and earned his Bachelor’s degree from UMASS with high honors in 1992.
Joseph was an avid lover of all things nature and a heavy advocate for human justice. He was very charitable to the causes close to his heart.
You could find Joseph taking his family up north for vacation or fishing on his boat in his happiest moments.
He was the husband to his loving wife Fran (Haley) Silvia of 55 years. Brother of Louise (Silvia) Belisle, Peter Silvia, Elizabeth Silvia, and Paulette Silvia. Father of Joseph T. Silvia, Matthew Silvia, and Andrew Silvia and his wife Kristen (Beavuis) Silvia. Grandfather to Nicolas Silvia, Jamie Silvia, Joseph M. Silvia, and the newest addition the light of his life, Summer Silvia. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Long time dear friend Rodney Hager was also close to his heart and enjoyed their lunch days by the water.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58@ the rotary) in Whitman on Saturday February 26 from 11AM to 12:30PM, with a service to follow at 12:30 PM.
