Obituary

Boston — Maria Emiliana (Goulart) Dias, age 74, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, February 3rd 2022 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital after a year-long courageous battle against lymphoma. She was the beloved wife of Armando A. Dias and mother of Emiliano Dias.

Maria was born in Faial, Azores to the late Jose Emiliano Goulart and Maria Sofia (Rodrigues) Goulart on February 9th, 1947. She was married to Armando A. Dias on May 4th of 1968, they emigrated to the United States later that year. Maria gave birth to her only child, Emiliano Dias in early 1969.

She worked as a factory seamstress until earning her GED in her mid-forties and becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sacred Heart Nursing Home until her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling via cruises throughout most of her retirement. She also was an avid user of technology, having had many computers, tablets and Internet access during the past two decades which she used to play many games and keep in touch with friends and family throughout the world. She was especially adept at Tetris.

She is survived by her loving husband, Armando, her son, Emiliano Dias, as well as a niece, Maria Goulart and two nephews, Peter Goulart and Armand Pereira.

She was predeceased by her late brother, Emiliano Goulart.

Maria's funeral mass with her cremains will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. The burial of her cremains will immediately follow in St. John's Cemetery.
