Charles R. “Chuck” Adcox, Sr., 75, of Anderson, passed away at his home on Monday, February 21, 2022.
He was born on January 16, 1947, in Anderson, the son of Sandy Ire Robert Adcox and Donna Margaret Koeniger Adcox. He was a 1965 graduate of Anderson High School and later graduated with a degree in Journalism from Ball State University. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
Chuck was a spirited man, albeit a quiet one. He loved making others smile with his quirky and sometimes flat-out weird sense of humor. Chuck felt it was his special mission to make his wife Andrea smile at least once every day, and very nearly did so! Chuck and Andrea spent more than 33 years together doing things they both loved: traveling all over the world, making music, and fostering cats. Chuck channeled his passion for bringing joy to others through vocal and instrumental performance. An outstanding brass player, particularly on the trumpet, Chuck lent his talent and high standards for musical excellence to the Anderson University Community Band, Alexandria Community Band, Lapel Community Band, and Mainstage Theatre Productions Orchestra. A Boy Scout Master, Chuck spent many years devoting himself as a troop leader, trainer, and adult scouter. As a scout at East Lynn Christian Church, Chuck earned the God and Community Award. Chuck was especially proud of his son Chip becoming an Eagle Scout. Through Andrea's influence, Chuck discovered his own love of cats. Together they fostered over 800 hundred cats through the years! As Chuck put it, "Thanks to Andrea, I am a very good cat dad...helping one of these loving little creatures out of its pain is THE MOST LOVING THING a human can do (emphasis Chuck's)." And love them he did through many years of devoted service to the Madison County Humane Society.
He is survived by his wife Andrea J. (Hudson) Adcox, whom he married July 23, 1988; two children, Christine McBrier of Texas, and Charles R. “Chip” Adcox, Jr. (Tammy) of Michigan; stepdaughter, Karen (Michael) Grizzle of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Cheyenne, Ronald, Rebecca, Christian, Jacob, and Elizabeth; eight great-grandchildren; brother Larry (Fae) Adcox of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
