Obituary

John Joseph Anderson, 68 of East Greenbush, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Evergreen Commons. He was born in Lowell, MA on November 13, 1953 and was a son of the late Paul Arguin and the late Margaret (Byrnes) Donvan. He was raised in Lowell, where he attended the area schools, graduating from Lowell High School with the class of 1972.

John was a proud Navy Veteran and served for 17 years as a Radioman in the US Naval Submarine Force.  Although he served aboard various submarines during his career, the USS Bonefish based out of Hawaii and then San Diego was by far his favorite boat and aboard which he earned his Enlisted Submarine Service Insignia (Dolphins).

During his career, he received letters of Commendation from the USS Bonefish, USS Philadelphia and the USS Sam Rayburn. In addition to his prized Dolphins Insignia, he was awarded the Navy Battle “E” Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon/4 Stars, FBM Deterrent Patrol Insignia/3 Stars as well as 4 Good Conduct Medals and the National Defense Medal.  Having made several deployments he received multiple certificates, including Realm of Golden Dragon (crossing the International Date Line), Trusty Shellback (the equator) and Order of the Locks (Panama Canal).

He enjoyed fishing and reading; as well as watching sports, especially cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.

John is survived by his two daughters, KrisEmily McCrory and her husband, Drew of Castleton on Hudson, NY, and Keri Anderson and her significant other, Roger Tanguay of Lowell; and his grandchildren, Emily Olds, Oli Olds, Dylan Tanguay, Eoghan McCrory, and Eveleen McCrory. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard Anderson, Joanna Almeida, and Scott Anderson.

He was predeceased by his brother, the late Paul ‘Skip’ Arguin; and his sister, the late Pauline (Arguin) Sousa.

On Thursday, February 24, all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9 - 11 a.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA 978-458-6816.

His funeral service with United States Navy honors will take place at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place privately at Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne.
