Michael W. Bennett, 64, of Derry, NH, died Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry following a brief illness. He was born in Arlington, MA on October 12th, 1957, a son of Francis and Marilyn (Warren) Bennett. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 8 years, formerly living in Hudson, NH.
Mike, also known as “Benny”, joined the Londonderry Police Department in 1980 as a patrol officer and would later go on to serve as a Juvenile Officer, Police Prosecutor, Detective, Acting Sergeant, and as a Patrol Lieutenant until his retirement in 2006. He will be remembered by the department for his attention to detail, hearty belly laugh, and dependability. Mike was an avid golfer and loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends at Halfmoon Lake. He enjoyed playing poker and pool and was a member of the American Legion in Londonderry. Mike was especially proud of his new grandson, Maverick, and took great pleasure in spoiling him.
In addition to his parents of Arlington, MA; he is survived by his daughter, Sherri Bennett of Nashua, NH; his grandson, Maverick Michael Haas of Nashua; two brothers, Thomas Bennett of Barnstead, NH, and Daniel Bennett and husband William Purcell of Middleborough, MA; his sister, Paula Warren and husband Brian Warren of Woburn, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 24th from 4 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, with cremation to follow. Mask usage is at the discretion of the attendee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Maverick Haas Educational Donations, C/O Londonderry Police Department, Attn: Sgt. Ryan Buker, 268A Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH 03053. Please make checks payable to “LPA” and put “Lt. Bennett” in the MEMO. All monies received will be given to Mike’s daughter Sherri to establish a higher education fund for Maverick.
