Obituary

Nancy E. MacDonald (Nichol), age 73, of South Weymouth, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

The daughter of Robert and Doris “Dolly” (O’Connor) Nichol, Nancy was raised in Allston-Brighton and graduated from Rosary Academy High School in Watertown. She is survived by her beloved husband John ‘Jack’ MacDonald Jr. of South Weymouth, with whom she spent nearly forty years. She is also survived by all the children: daughter Kristen Sherman (Stephen) of Scituate, son Jamie Bruno (Donna) of West Roxbury, Kara Flanagan (Sean) of Connecticut, Heather Spadorcia (Stephen) of Braintree, and John MacDonald III of Scituate. Nancy was the proud grandmother of eight cherished grandchildren: Henry, Oliver, Fiona, Aine, Charlie, Gianna, Brody, and Francesca. Nancy is also survived by her siblings Roberta Love (Richard), John Nichol, and Denise Pendergast (Bob), many nieces and nephews, and grand-dogs.

Prior to starting her family, Nancy worked at UPS. When her children were older, she had a second career at Jordan Marsh as customer service manager for 15 years. For the last part of her career, she worked for John Y. Brady Deputy Collector in Scituate.

A social magnet who loved nothing more than a cocktail at sunset, she made friends easily and kept them for life. Fortunate to retire early, Nancy and Jack were able to pursue their shared love of boating, which took them along the Eastern Seaboard, from Maine to New York and everywhere in between on their boat, The Procrastinator. They were active members of the Metropolitan Yacht Club and before that, “G Dock” of Hewitt’s Cove Marina.

They wintered in Pompano Beach, FL for the last 17 years and enjoyed Tuesday Night Soirees at the Silver Thatch with their Florida friends. In addition, they traveled to Italy, Canada and the Caribbean.

As the beating heart of her large blended family, Nancy adored spending time with those she loved. Whether on the phone with her sisters, or cheering her grandchildren on in all they did, Nancy was the cornerstone of her family. She spent countless hours on the sidelines of baseball and soccer fields, swimming pools, step dancing stages, basketball courts, skateparks and music halls. Ever willing to adapt and evolve, she even had a funny, loving social media presence which she used to shower praise and maintain her many treasured friendships.

Her sharp wit coupled with her compassion will be missed by all.
