Augustine J. ‘Gus’ Ferrera, 85 of York, ME, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 peacefully with his family by his bedside. He was the husband of Margaret (Indelicato) Ferrera with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October of 2022.
He was born in Boston on January 13, 1937 and was a son of the late John A. and Louise (DaDomo) Ferrera. He was raised in Boston, where he attended the area schools graduating from Boston Trade School with a certification in plumbing. Gus was a plumber with the Boston Union Local 12 for 54 years until his retirement, working at Valente in Quincy and Wambolt Plumbing and Heating in Waltham.
In 1975, Gus relocated from Boston to Tewksbury, where he made his home until 2001, when he then retired to York, ME. While in Tewksbury, he was a communicant of St. Williams Church, where he was a member of the St. Williams Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4336. In 2001, In York, ME. he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #11940 and a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church
He enjoyed golfing, watching the New England Patriots, reading and traveling with his wife that included trips to Italy, Alaska, Panama Canal, Canary Island, Grand Canyon, Florida, and a cross country drive to Washington state to visit their son. He had a keen interest in history, as well as politics and current events. Gus will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his ability to be a great friend whenever needed.
In addition to his wife, Margaret of York, ME, he is survived by his three children, Gail T. Simard of Nashua, NH, John A. Ferrera of Everett, Washington, James. J. Ferrera and Stacy Pham of Groveland, MA; and his three beloved granddaughters, Laura Simard and fiancé Jacob Bent, Marissa Ferrera and fiancé Ed Allison, and Elliese Ferrera. He is also survived by his sister, Louise Voveris of Milton, MA; his dear friends, Dan Sprague, Paul Lussier, Bob Pantone; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Ferrera and his sisters Corrine Miller and Vera Quish.
Gus will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the best!
On Saturday, February 26, 2022 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9-10:30 a.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury, 978-851-2061.
His funeral Mass will be offered at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Tewksbury.
