Christy Edwards Sheffield, 47, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Luther Kirby officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Christy was born July 3, 1974, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Jerry & Becky Duke Edwards. She was a graduate of Irwin County High School and received an Associate’s Degree in Business and a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. Christy began working for Irwin County Hospital at the age of 15. She transferred to Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in 1995 and became nursing home administrator in July of 2017. Christy was a dedicated and loyal employee and leader to Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home, its staff, its residents, and its resident’s family. Christy loved PGNH and she loved each and every resident, Christy poured her heart and soul into the well-being of “her” residents and she delighted in caring for them. Most people work for a living, few find happiness in what they do. She clearly displayed her love for her work and the joy it brought her. She was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Sheffield of Ocilla; a son, Keegan Sheffield of Ocilla; a daughter, Anna Ray Sheffield of San Antonio, Texas; her parents, Jerry & Becky Edwards of Ocilla; and two brothers: Michael Edwards of Irwinville and Ricky Edwards of Ocilla. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and was very close to all of her family. She was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Jeffrey Sheffield.
