Johanna (Joan, Josie) Prendergast (Roche) of Readville passed away on February 17, 2022 at the age of 84. Born in Gowran, County Kilkenny, Ireland, Joan immigrated to the United States in 1956 at the age of 19. She soon found work for Columban Fathers, Liberty Mutual and in later years was a waitress happily for 29 years at the Roslindale Eire Pub. She was an active member of the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. A beloved wife of 60 years to Dominick Prendergast formerly of County Galway. A loving mother to the late John Prendergast and his wife Diane of Cumberland, RI, Margaret Hutchinson and her husband Joe of Dedham, Maurice Prendergast and his wife Michelle of West Roxbury, and the late Siobhain Leavitt. Devoted “grandma” to Brian, Alexa, Kevin, Kelly, Ben, Tyler, Mackenzie and Ryan whom Dom (“grandpa”) and her enjoyed individual trips to Chick-fil-A with. She was known for her delicious chicken salad, potato salad and the best irish maker of meatballs. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Joan will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Friday, February 25th at 10 am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anne Church at 11 o’clock. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
