Obituary

On Thursday, February 10, 2022, Michael David Oliver drifted comfortably to rest at the age of 69. Carefree and kind, he was a man who loved classic cars and classic rock, who held his wife and friends, his family, and his beloved Boston Sports teams in the highest regard.

If you had been in Mike’s life at any point, you remained in his heart, and in his stories, forever. He was a collector of lifelong friendships and an endless resource of stories and memories. His laugh, his smile, and his genuine interest in others were the foundation of his authenticity. He truly was, ‘one of the good guys.’

Mike was born on July 4th, 1952, a date to match his exuberance, to the late Mary Wilena and Jeremiah David Oliver. Raised in Norwood, where Mike made lifelong friends and also met his first wife, Francine, with whom he raised two children – Scott and Rachel.

In Medway, Mike raised his children and shared his love of soccer through many years of dedicated coaching. His kids fondly remember his affliction for taking “the long way home,” just to steal a few extra moments lost in time with his music and children.

Following the end of his first marriage, Mike focused his energy on his career in sales, meeting up with his friends, and catching shows at John Stone’s, his favorite bar. Although he was certain he wouldn’t wed again, it was at that very bar that he met, and then eagerly married, his devoted and beloved wife, Jeanne.

After many fun filled years living together in Upton, Mike and Jeanne retired to Plymouth full time. Their gorgeous home, and the accompanying waterfront cottage that sits upon a serene sandy beach, was Mike’s happy place, a true oasis where friends and family could gather. Much like his heart was always open to others, so was his home. “The more the merrier,” he’d say without a moment’s hesitation.

Mike lived freely, without judging himself or others against conventional standards or markers of success. He lived by pursuing what made him happy, and although his life was not without struggle or conflict, in the end he was a fulfilled man who knew he was loved by many.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne Louise Oliver of Plymouth, MA; son Scott David Oliver of Millis, MA; Rachel Oliver Craigen and her husband Steven; two granddaughters Adalie Kay Craigen (4) and Tula Grace Craigen (2) of Chelmsford, MA; sister Carol Luce and her husband David; nieces and nephews Chad, Courtney, and John along with their spouses and children; lifelong best friend Arb Bonfatti, and countless other friends and loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. In the meantime, please smile if you raise a glass in his honor, always continue to spread kindness far and wide – and above all else, love your family and friends with all of your heart.
