Obituary

CHICOPEE – Patrick J. Donahue, 88, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea, Massachusetts surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family, comrades-at-arms, and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Boston on August 30, 1933, a beloved son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Brady) Donahue. Patrick dedicated his life to serving his country. Prior to graduating from Commerce High School in Boston, Patrick was a 1795 Tank Driver in the Army National Guard. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country in both Korea and Vietnam until his retirement after 22 years of faithful service. After his retirement from the Air Force, Patrick continued to serve his country as a federal employee of the United States Government, serving as a Telecommunications Specialist at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee, MA and Fort Devens in Ayer, MA. After 21 years of dedicated and loyal service, Patrick officially retired from the Department of the Army. After retirement, he also was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service in Townsend, MA. In his free time, Patrick loved boating and vacationing on Lake Winnipesaukee, attending his grandsons’ many sporting events and spending time with his family. He was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary J. (Motroni) Donahue in 2016. He leaves his three loving daughters, Ann M. Chicoine and her husband, Denis, of Chicopee, Susan M. Wytrych and her husband, Edward, of Feeding Hills, and Karen A. Martin and her wife, Rebecca, of Grapevine, TX; his four grandsons, Joseph Lavoie, Louis Chevalier, Ryan Wytrych and Connor Wytrych; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended members of the Donahue and Motroni families. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his two brothers, James and John; and his four sisters, Anne, Helen, Margaret, and Kathleen. His Funeral will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please note that masks are required for his services. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, MA 02150.
