The widowed Mrs. Dumas Lafontant (Manmita), born Desilia Ita Monereau in Grande- Rivière du Nord, Haiti on December 18, 1923, surrounded by her family, peacefully died in prayer on February 14, 2022 at the age of 98 years old.
Manmita is survived by her eight children: Jean Lafontant, Rose-Marie Lafontant, Serge Lafontant, Yves Marie Rolande Lafontant, Rose Denise Gilles, Elsie Lafontant Fabre, Jeanne Lafontant, and Dumas Fils Lafontant, thirty-two Grandchildren, twenty-seven Great grandchildren, including her sisters Anna Monereau, Marie Claire Percinthe Monereau, fifteen nephews and nieces, over fifty children housed at EHMF, as well as countless friends throughout the world.
Manmita, in collaboration with the late Reverend Jean-Claude Lespinasse, is the Founder of Enfant Haitien Mon Frère (EHMF), a village for orphans and abandoned children, located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, which continues to function. She will be greatly missed for that which made her unique, particularly her character and philanthropy.
Viewing hour will be on Saturday February 26, 2022 from 8:30-9:50 AM in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home located at 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, Ma. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday February 26, 2022 at 10:30 AM in Boston's Basilica/ Our Lady of Perpetual Help located at 1545 Tremont Street, Boston, Ma. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery located at 45 Fairview Ave, Hyde Park, Ma.
