J. B. Hancock, 84, of the Lands Crossing Community, Irwin County, Georgia, died Thursday, February 17, 2022, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Monday, February 21, 2022, at Vickers Cemetery in Berrien County, Georgia, with the Rev. Larry Daughtry and the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, February 20, 2022, from 6PM until 8PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Hancock was born February 20, 1937 in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late Charlie C. and Eula Rutherford Hancock. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to their farm near Irwinville, Georgia. J.B. loved to have a job. He started working on the family farm, in agriculture and doing construction jobs. J.B. worked for over thirty years for JP Stevens and Horizon. He then worked for twenty-eight years for the Irwin County Road Department. In the early 1980’s J.B and Vivian were foster parents. Each child was loved and left many memories to be cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian T. Martin Hancock of Lands Crossing; a son, Billy Hancock & Amy of Mystic; 2 granddaughters: Anna Hancock and Callie Mauldin & Cody; one stepdaughter: Ginger Martin Wynn; step-grandchildren: Dustin Wynn & Hannah, April Reyes & Alfredo, Traci Jenkins & Devin; great-grandchildren: Kaylon Wynn, Cole Devane, Kason Wynn, Kinslee Wynn, Parker Jenkins and Clayton Jenkins; three sisters: Mary Frances Godwin, Margaret Albritton and Shirley Sumner & Elbert; as well as one sister-in-law, Gwen Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Dena Martin Hobby and her husband, W.B. of Calhoun; one brother, Leroy Hancock of Pinellas, Park, Florida.
