Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Mobberly Everett, of North Hill, Needham formerly of Wellesley, announces her passing on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the age of 82, following a brief cardiac illness.

Mary was born on November 13, 1939, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to James and Hazel (Ball) Mobberly. Her close-knit family consisted of her mother, a former piano teacher, her father, a business owner and longtime elected school-board member, and her older brother Jim. They were a very musical family – often singing together with their own instrumental accompaniment – and were very active in their church and community.

Mary met her husband, Addison Laurance Everett Jr., on a blind date while attending the University of Kentucky, where she majored in Botany. They decided to get married after a year of dating, though they had to go to Indiana for the wedding because no one would perform the services in Kentucky since Mary was Baptist and Add was Catholic (as Mary put it, "We were the talk of the town"). Starting in Pittsburgh, PA, the family moved 8 times in 11 years. A final move allowed the family to settle down in Sudbury, MA, where they raised their three children. Mary was a very doting and loving mother, a beloved friend among her group of close friends, and a devoted church member.

Over the years Mary volunteered at various school libraries to help out. After her divorce from Add in 1986, she was volunteering at The Rivers School library in Weston, MA, when she was asked to join them as a full-time librarian. She greatly enjoyed working with the students there until her retirement in 2014. She remained very involved in her church, the Village Church in Wellesley, MA, where she ushered and sang in the choir. Her keen sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and tender-hearted demeanor will be missed by all.

Mary is survived by her children Addison Everett III and his wife Julie, Robert Everett and his wife Laurie, and Laura Stanley and her husband James; her grandchildren Elizabeth and Virginia Stanley, Peter, Julia and Graham Everett, and John and Kate Everett; and her brother James Mobberly.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 3 pm, at the Wellesley Village Church, 2 Central St., Wellesley, MA 02482. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellesley Village Church.
