Obituary

CORNISH - Albert E. Springer, Jr (Junior), 71, passed away on February 11, 2022, in the afternoon at Northern Light Mercy Hospital with his wife by his side.
Junior was born in Hancock Maine on December 27, 1950, the son of the late Albert Springer Sr and Ethel Springer (Clarke) of Hancock, Maine. He was the only boy of six children.
When he was young he and some of his friends quit school and joined the Navy whereupon he served on the USS Milwaukee until September 1970. Junior was a Vietnam Veteran and received the National Defense Service Metal.
He spent most of his life working in the construction field after leaving the Navy as a heavy equipment operator for several construction companies throughout Maine.
Years ago he owned a racing car that he maintained and raced up to Oxford Speedway.
Junior was a true sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and other outside recreational activities regardless of the season. He was always doing different projects that involved woodworking and painting designs and characters on wood. Once he decided he was going to build two display size fishing boats from scratch and a couple of the restaurants one in Cornish and one in Gorham each displayed one of his boats.

Years ago Junior became friends with Bob Thorn who owned a Fly Fishing Shop on Rt. 113 in Standish/Steep Falls, ME, and Bob taught him how to tie flies for fly fishing and streamers for trolling which he became exceptional at and enjoyed for years. Many would tell him what they had caught for fish on his dry/wet flies and streamer flies which was rewarding to him.
Junior also enjoyed his 4 wheeler, motorcycle and most of all his suped up golf cart which Spanky did some recent upgrades to it for him. Thank you Spanky. As his wife I told him that's as fast as you need to move at your age. Well I was wrong again and for those who were close friends they know what I am refering too.
He also enjoyed playing guitar for years and made many trips to Friendly River Music in Hiram, ME. Many times he would get together with different friend(s) and play music which he enjoyed.
Albert Springer was a member of the American Legion for 16 years. Originally he joined Post #128 in Standish and then transferred in 2009 to West-Day Post #123 in Kezar Falls, Maine. He was elected to the office of Service Officer in May 2013 as his knowledge of veteran affairs was impressive. Albert was instrumental in aiding and assisting many veterans with applications to the Veterans Administration and also other veteran issues. Albert was also elected in May 2016 to be the Commander of West-Day Post #123 and was responsible for all matters pertaining to the post and veteran affairs of the post. He held both of the offices until his passing, his shoes will be difficult to fill.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
Albert was survived by his wife of almost 40 years Penny L Springer, Cornish and his son Arthur A Springer, Cornish and our dogs Sofie and Bentley which he cared about greatly.
Junior had too many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends to list. He was predeceased by father Albert Springer Sr and mother Ethel Springer (Clarke) along with sisters Susan Springer, Ellsworth and Marjorie Nankervis, Franklin. He is survived by sister Peggy Leighton, Hermon, Betsy McAlpine and husband Wayne, Ellsworth and Karen Nelson who is in Oregon. Along with Dylan Leighton, Hermon, who Junior was very fond of. Junior also lived with a family in Eastbrook years ago and was very fond of the mother Juanita Wilbur and father Irving Wilbur, their son Joey Wilbur and wife Methel Wilbur and sister Julie Curtis and her husband Christopher and son Wally Wilbur, Waldoboro, Maine.
Rest in peace my husband, father, son and Commander of West-Day Post #123 Kezar Falls.
