Obituary

BUXTON- Alan “Big Al” Edward Judkins Sr, 73, passed away February 10, 2022, at Maine Medical Center after a long fight with cardiovascular disease secondary to Covid-19.

Big Al was born in Portland Maine, on February 14, 1948, to his parents Archie E. Judkins and Marcia H. Bower Judkins.

He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High school in 1967. Alan enlisted into the Army in 1967 and did several tours in Vietnam where he earned several medals and a Purple Heart.

Alan married his loving wife of 47 years, Sheila R. Grindle on February 1, 1975. They moved to Standish where they raised their family until moving to Buxton in 2010.

Alan worked at Megquire and Jones, a steel fabrication plant, as a painter for 30 years before becoming disabled.

Alan’s hobbies included fishing, canoeing the Saco River in July, camping, horse racing at Scarborough Downs, and watching his grandsons’ sporting events. He also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots.

Alan was predeceased by both his parents. He is survived by his wife Sheila, his daughter Christina Judkins-Hendrix and her husband John, his son Alan Judkins Jr and his fiancé Colleen Cross. Six grandsons, Michael and John Hendrix, Justin Judkins, Caleb and Jake Garland, and William Hendrix. A granddaughter Everlee Cross Judkins and 3 great grandchildren Nevaeh, Jayde, and Tyson.

The family would like to thank the nurses at MMC and Hospice of Southern Maine, along with Tiffany Warren for being so kind and good to Alan.


Visiting hours will be held on Thursday Feb. 17 from 5 - 7 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. During the visiting hours at 6 PM, U.S. Army Honors will be performed to honor Alan for his service in Vietnam.
