Barbara Stamm (“Nana”) Fowlie, 93, of Ventura, CA passed away on February 10th, 2022 in her home surrounded by family and loved ones. Barbara was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 3rd, 1929 and adopted by Gustave Stamm and Else Mootz the same year. After high school, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and later went on to study at the Rhode Island School of Design. Afterward, she enlisted in the army and became an occupational art therapist, where she met her husband, Elmore I. Fowlie. She left the army as a 1st lieutenant to raise a family with Elmore, and her two children, Carolin Maples and John Fowlie, were both born in 1960. Barbara was a child’s advocate and was a member of CASA for a number of years. She was also a member of the Sierra Club and supported many environmental causes.
Barbara is finally joining her beloved husband & daughter, Elmore & Carolin, who passed away in December 2017. She is survived by her son John (M’Lisa), her granddaughter Kristina (Oscar), as well as her beloved Mamacita. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Planned Parenthood or the charity of your choosing. There will be no funeral services as per her wishes.
