Phyllis M. Jones, 92, life long Anderson resident, went to be with the Lord February 9, 2022 at her residence.
Phyllis was born February 24, 1929 in Anderson, the daughter of Harry Guy and Mary Edith (Denny) Pickrell. She was a graduate of Anderson College and obtained her masters degree from Ball State University.
She was a physical education teacher at North Side Junior High School (1967-70) and later Dean of Girls (1970-76) and physical education teacher (1976-92) at South Side Junior High School. She was a longtime member of Anderson Church of the Brethren. She taught weekday Religious Education for 23 years and taught Child Evangelism in her home for neighborhood kids. She was a very active worker in her church children's program. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, Jr. Church, Adult Sunday School teacher, Commission member, board member and Youth Wednesday night ministry.
She is survived by her four children, Terry (Lynette) Jones, Keith Jones, Elaine (Tom) Heath all of Anderson and Mike (Lisa) Jones of California; nine grandchildren, Steffanie Jones Washo, Alison Jones Davis, Jeff Heath, Kim Heath Tuck, Misty Miller Summers, Marcus Miller, Brandon Miller, Melissa Jones Darcey, Michael Jones; 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John B. "J.B." Jones , and her daughter, Diane Miller; two sisters, Gertrude (Brattain) Dovey and Gerry (Pickrell) Kellberg; and two brothers, Donald Pickrell and Forest Brattain.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Anderson Church of the Brethren with Rev. Spencer Spaulding and Ed Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
