Obituary

Nimmo, John of Wellesley, died on February 5, 2022. He was born in California, spent most of his teen years in Scotland, and returned to the United States as a young man. He has been a Wellesley resident for 55 years. He was a World War II veteran, having joined the Navy, and later served as a meteorologist in the Coast Guard, during which he was stationed in Greenland. He graduated from Clark University with a B.A. and from New York University with a Master's.

He spent the majority of his career in advertising sales and publishing, working for Reader's Digest, The Atlantic, and Harvard Business Review. He started his own magazine as well as his own small publishing company. His interests were far and wide, and over the course of his career he met 4 U.S. presidents. He also became a real estate broker, owned a small art gallery, and co-authored a medical book. He loved to paint and was an avid golfer, having won the 1972 Greater Hartford Pro Am with his Pro partner, Lee Trevino. He also won multiple local golf tournaments. He never stopped learning or reading. He was 100 years old, and is survived by 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was beloved by everyone who knew him, and will be missed greatly by all those who were lucky enough to know him and call him friend.

A memorial service will be held in the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St., Wellesley Hills on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 12:00pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. A reception will follow at the Papa Razzi Restaurant, Wellesley Hills.
