Merrell “Land” Pittman, III, 58, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, February 10, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Pittman was born October 1, 1963, in Grenada, Mississippi, to Merrell Land Pittman, Jr. and the late Nancy Hollingsworth Walker. He earned an Associate’s degree from Georgia Tech and worked as the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for Beasley Forest Group. Mr. Pittman was a minister of God and wonderful Pappy to his grands. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and loved being in the woods. He enjoyed playing music, especially the drums. He was an accomplished artist in drawing as well as in writing poetry. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs and any other team in the SEC.
He is survived by his wife, Shanna Pittman of Fitzgerald; children: Kayla Shaye Ward (Dustin), Brooke Nicole Tyson, Christian James Tyson, and Merrell Land Pittman, IV; grandchildren: Tess Marie Ward, Kit MaKenzi Ward, Charles Channon Edwards, Jr. as well as Kaden Alexander Hess who is on the way; his father, Merrell Land Pittman, Jr. of Snellville; two sisters: Dixie Pittman Hardy (Ken) of Tifton and Lisa Tartaglione (Dan); a brother, Joseph Chance Walker; a brother-in-law, Ricky Dean Baker, Jr.; two nieces: Carlee Rae Wood and Cecily Myers; and four nephews: Joseph Walker, Jackson Walker, Trey Baker, and Sage Baker. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Pittman and his beloved grandparents: Merrell Land Pittman, Sr. & Jamie Pittman and George & Laverne Hollingsworth.
