Richard “Stan” Pike, husband of Linda, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on February 8, with his family at his side. Stan was born in 1935, one of five children of the late Ray Pike Jr. and Adelaide Pike. In addition to his loving wife, Stan is survived by his son Jeffrey and his love Robin, and Jeff’s children Thomas and wife Sarah, Lucinda, and Julie; his son James and wife Ellen, and their sons Reed, Tate, and Cole. Stan is also survived by his sister Lillian. In addition to his parents, Stan is predeceased by his siblings Marian, Ray, and William.
Stan was passionate about music, learning the saxophone as a young teenager and playing the saxophone and clarinet his entire life—including a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner just before his 86th birthday. After Stan’s senior year in high school, he performed as part of the Block Island Sound Trio, and later on in life, he played for many years in both the Southeastern Massachusetts Community Concert Band and the Canton Legion Band.
Another highlight of Stan’s life was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, going to every game that he could. He loved all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. Stan also enjoyed playing and watching golf.
Stan’s education included earning his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire and his Master’s from Northeastern University. Stan then began a 50-year career as an electrical engineer, including employment with Raytheon and Honeywell. He spent most of his career with Gamewell, specializing in designing fire alarm systems.
While at the University of New Hampshire, Stan met Linda in 1959, playing the song “Linda” on his saxophone at a social gathering. They married in 1961 and moved to Medway in 1965, where they lived for 47 years.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 12 at 2 p.m. at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), followed by visitation with family until 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in memory of Stan to donors’ favorite charity.
