Obituary

HOLLIS - Nancy E. Daney, age 74, passed away February 7, 2022, at her home with her loving husband, Paul and daughters Melissa and Loretta by her side.

She was born in Saco, ME on December 20, 1947, a daughter of the late Chester and Mildred “Leah” (Bradeen) Wakefield.

Nancy graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1965. In 1974 she met the love of her life, Paul E. Daney, Sr. She started out babysitting Paul’s three kids and their love grew into something more special. Paul and Nancy married on October 11, 1975.

Nancy loved children! After Paul Jr. passed away she devoted her time babysitting local kids and became a Foster Mom, taking in and caring for many foster children in Maine; whom a few stayed in contact with over the years.

Nancy also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler at Vacationland Bowling Center, where she went on to be the State of Maine Mixed Doubles Bowling Champion with her bowling partner, Butch Petit. She also won the Ladies Teams Handicap State of Maine Tournament with Shirley Lewis, Carmen Precourt, Linda Bushey, and Cordrell Scott. She loved canoeing down the Saco River, even though she couldn’t paddle a straight line, and she enjoyed gardening and planting her flower beds. She loved listening to music and going to concerts; one of her favorite artists was “Kid Rock”. You couldn’t ride in the car without her blaring his music through the speakers. Most of all she enjoyed going on family vacations, and Carnival cruises to tropical destinations. Nancy and Paul belonged to the Maine Coastal Cruisers. She enjoyed going to all the antique car shows and driving around in her 1967 baby blue Mustang and Paul's 1964-½ Mustang, which she called “White Lightning”.

Nancy was a snow bird and resided in Holiday Florida with her late Mother in Law, Rita Daney, starting in the winter of 2004. She had other family members that lived in that area and she made many new friends there as well.

She is predeceased by her son, Paul E. Daney, Jr, who passed away in August of 1977 and her brother Arthur Wescott, Jr. of Hollis in 2019.

She is survived by her loving husband, Paul E. Daney, Sr. of Hollis; daughter Loretta Daney and Fiance Johnathan Davis of Hollis, daughter Melissa Emmons and Husband David of Hollis, Julie Flood (who Nancy always called “her first born”) and her husband Wally of Hollis, adopted sons Joey Daney of Pisz, Poland and Donald Daney of Hollis; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews of whom she loved and thought the world of.

A graveside service will be held on May 22, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Wakefield Route 5 South Hollis Family Cemetery in Hollis. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Rt. 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074 for their support and comfort of Nancy in her final days.
