Obituary

HAMPSTEAD, N.H. — Lesley Ann (Durgin) White, 86, a long-time resident of Hampstead, NH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at All American Assisted Living in Londonderry, N.H. She was the wife of the late Earl H. “Hux” White, Jr. with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Haverhill, MA on May 27, 1935, Lesley was the daughter of the late Leslie and Irene (Coddaire) Durgin. She attended Haverhill High School, graduating in just three years. Lesley worked as an accounting clerk for many years until her retirement.

Lesley enjoyed word games with anyone who dared challenge her, including the online game “Words with Friends” through which she conversed with other players from around the world. She loved to travel. She enjoyed countless driving trips across the US and Canada with Hux, as well as adventures abroad with family and friends, including trips to England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Ukraine and Costa Rica. Together, Lesley and Hux spent their summers traveling to several NH Farmers’ Markets, where they sold organic produce and maple syrup from their own Crooked Beech Farm. Attending these far-flung markets also gave them the opportunity to sample breakfast restaurants around the state – a favorite pastime.

Lesley was a terrific gardener. She took great pride in her English country garden and rose garden that surrounded the family’s home in Hampstead. She was even able to plant and grow a shade garden which produced never-ending color. But above all, Lesley treasured the time she spent with her family. She delighted in their frequent “Sunday at 2:00” parties and other gatherings where she displayed her quick sense of humor and her quiet but steadfast moral compass.

Lesley was predeceased by her husband, Hux. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jill and Gary Lavey of Barrington, R.I., Tracy and Gordon Graham of Derry, N.H., and Heather White of Hampstead, N.H.; a son, Huxley C. "Chris" White of Hampstead, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Shannan, Alyssa, Owen, Alexander, Victoria, Declan, Griffin, Camden and Mikhail; six great-grandchildren, Brynn, Colin, Addison, Graham, Elsie and Elizabeth; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Durgin; a sister-in-law and her husband, Joan and Robert Cemate, and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial and service will be held in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead, NH. Contributions may be made in Lesley’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or online at https://www.cancer.org/.
