Donald C. "Donny" Whalen, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 69 years of age.
Donny was born in Boston on August 14, 1952, a son of the late Matthew Whalen and Marion (Ciampa) Whalen. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and Brighton High School. Donny enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on June 1, 1971 and served his country with courage and pride during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1973 with the rank of Lance Corporal. Donny worked for many years around the Charlestown area as a carpenter and contractor. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, skiing and camping.
Donny is the devoted father of Shauna Connors and her husband Gerard, Matthew Whalen, Danielle Whalen and the late Kelley Whalen. He is the loving Papa to Lauren, Lindsay, Landon, Lana and Giovanna. He is the beloved brother of Paula Grace and her husband John, Barbara Harty and her husband Richard, Richard Whalen and his wife Maryann, retired Boston Police Officer Matthew Whalen and his wife Karen and the late Barry Whalen and his surviving wife Annmarie. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Donny's visiting hours on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private.
