Joseph C. DeMarco, a long-time resident of Medford, passed away on Saturday, February 5th. Joe was strong-willed and a tremendous fighter later in life, overcoming many of his health issues and recently celebrating his 90th birthday. Born and raised in Boston’s North End, and so proud of his Italian heritage, he was the cherished son of the late Michael and Josephine (Butera) DeMarco.
Joseph absolutely adored his family as the care and oversight of his family and extended family was his top priority in life. He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. When Joseph was not spending time with his family, you could find him puttering around his yard doing yardwork, taking care of his vegetable garden, or in the den watching a Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox or Celtics game. He was a true definition of a diehard New England sports fan. Joseph was also an avid candlepin bowler and a long time member of the Arlington’s Retired Men’s Club for many years.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Camille (Anastasi) DeMarco of over 58 years. Joe loved Camille, who was the center of his world. He was the devoted father of Michael DeMarco of Medford, MA, Joseph DeMarco, Jr., and his partner Deb Leamy and Stephen DeMarco and his wife Annarita of Concord, MA. He was the loving Papa of Jonah, Damon, Tatum and Lucas. He was the dear brother of Susan Zizza, Joanne Kilroy, Domenic DeMarco, Diane Kercz and the late Marie Matthews. He is also survived by his dear in-laws Loretta and Peter D'Errico and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
